June 6, 1785, he entered portfrom Hispaniola, in the brigantine Xew Wenscntt, with a mis-cellaneous cargo of 374 bbls. of salt, molasses, anise-seed, limes,cordials, 8 tierces of Taffier rum, coffee, &c. Feb. 18,1788, hereturned from Cape Francois, in the sloop Providence. Hiscargo consisted of molasses, salt, claret, brandy, spirits, turpen-tine, old iron, &c. May 3, 1788, he entered from Charleston,in the same sloop with corn, deerskins, red cedar, rice, indigo,potatoes, brooms, &c. Shewas the of Stephen and Snsannah (Whipple) Dexter,and the g. of John and Alice (Smith) JohnDexter was the third son of Gregory and Abigail (Fnllerton)Dexter. Capt. Brown lived on North 5lain street, near the pres-ent Doyle avenne. An engine-honse, has, within recent years,been erected nearly on the site of the old honse.
