Mare's Well, Ffynnon Gaseg, rediscovered during building of Marine Drive,19th C, noted as site where pre-Roman miners washed copper ore natural spring

Found, probably re-discovered, during the construction of the Marine Drive in the nineteenth century, about half way round the Great Orme, and near the highest point. It was ideally situated to refresh the horses on that five mile carriage drive round the base of the Great Orme, hence its name, Gaseg means mare. In 1863 it had been noticed as a site where pre-Roman miners had washed large quantities of copper ore. It's likely the spring was known in the Bronze Age and may have been considered a holy well/healing site
