California condor #636. (Sept. 17, 2014) - California condor #636 at Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge for work ups. Condor #636 is one of seven endangered California condors that has roosted at Blue Ridge National Wildlife Refuge this summer, something that has not happened in nearly 40 years. Blue Ridge was identified as critical habitat in the 1970s because of its importance as a historical roost for condors and its proximity to areas where condors once foraged and nested in the western Sierras.
