My men were very tired, and my foot nowin a dangerous condition. The poison had ap-parently gone into my leg, so that the pain hadspread from knee to groin; while the foot itself,due to crude giraffe-hide sandals I had cutwith rough, parchment-like thongs, was bhstered,raw, and filthy.
