Chairs lined up neatly in the Miners Welfare Club in Horden, County Durham, England

Horden is a village in County Durham, England. It is situated on the North Sea coast, to the east of Peterlee, approximately 12 miles south of Sunderland. Horden was a mining village until the closure of the Horden Colliery in 1987. The Miners Welfare Hall opened in 1914. The Council bought the Social Welfare Centre from the Horden Miners Welfare Trust in 1991 in order to ensure their continuing use after the demise of the colliery.
