Francois Ravaillac murdered the French king Henry IV in 1610. He was a Catholic zealot and sought to persuade Henry IV to convert the Huguenots to Catholicism. Ravaillac was arrested after the assassination and tortured to divulge his accomplices, but he maintained he had none. He was condemned to death. Henry IV was succeeded by his son Louis XIII. Marie de Medicis was the wife of Henry IV.
