Manufacturing radon radiation dose meters (dosimeters). The machine is being used to cut the black material into individual dosimeter rectangles, each one having it own alphanumeric label. This allows the dosimeter to be accurately identified during use. This rectangular size can be used in badge detectors, worn to record an individual's level of exposure to radiation. The material used in radon detectors is the plastic polymer poly-allyl diglycol carbonate (PADC). Markings formed in the material due to the radiation can be counted, and the amount of radon present can then be calculated. This work is being carried out for the UK's Health Protection Agency.
