I hadjust walked across a field that was pastured withsheep. I noticed that weeds were almost rare in that. A Southdown. Property of the King of England. field. I came to a wire fence that separated thisfield from a cattle pasture. Just over that fence andright up to the wire weeds had run riot. It was asight. The cattle had mowed off patches in the earlyseason and confined their grazing to these mowedpatches. Two-thirds of the field had gro^^^l up inweeds and the grass in these untouched patches waschoked out and absolutely useless. The man thoughthe was grazing one steer on two acres. As a matter offact, he was grazing one steer on less than an of his pasture had gone to waste. Thisexplains the fact that large boimdaries are to-dayfattening hardly half the number of cattle that theyfattened years ago.
