Necropolis de Colon or El Cementerio de Cristobal Colon (the Cemetery of Christopher Columbus) in the Vedado neighbourhood of Havana in Cuba. The 135-acre Catholic cemetery founded in 1876 is full of creamy marble, glittering bronze, polished granite, angels, crosses and rich symbolism by 19th and 20th-century artists. It is one of the most important and largest cemeteries in the world. It is held to be the most important in Latin America in historical and architectural terms, second only to La Recoleta in Buenos Aires.
