Thin section micrograph of tiger-eye, a fibrous (SiO2) mineral, belonging to the silicate group. It is well known for it's silky, golden gloss (chatoyancy) and is often cut and polished into cabochons and trinkets. The fibrous texture is a consequence of intense shear -forces exerted on this siliceous rock, forces that also account for the undulation of the fibrous mass.
