Baro, Guinea, 1st May 2015: Baro village is be above the proposed level of the Fomi Dam and will be receiving people displaced by the dam. Small-scale cattle farmer, Mamadou Conde, 22, one wife and 2 children. He went traveling for many years, and decided to come back to the village and raise animals. He started with sheep and he now has 40 cows. In the dry season he lets the cows graze freely and in the rainy season he keeps them in his compound. He also rents out the cows to farmers for ploughing. He sold 5 of his cows to build a new house. He’s glad the dam is happening because it will help to develop the country. He welcomes the displaced people but he says the government needs to give in-coming herders somewhere else to keep their animals and some form of branding to identify the cows.
