And this is. THE CAMEL Peculiarly adapted for travel in the desert owing to a reason so singular and astonishing that it is hard to believe. The fact is, that during its long and painful journey the camel lives principally upon its own hump. Strange and impossible as it appears, this is nothing more than the bare truth; the animal lives upon its own hump. All we can tell is that, as time wears on, the hump gradually wastes away, and, though large and fat when the journey was begun, is little more than mere skin when it is ended.
