He was colonelof the militia of the northeast section of thecounty and a member of the Committee ofSafety, which, together with Baltzer Geehr, herepresented at the convention of the associatedmilitia, which met at Lancaster July 4, 1776. Itwas to him as a friend and an assemblymanthat Rev. Christopher Schultz, a Schwenkfeldianminister, appealed in behalf of the members ofhis sect in a letter dated Coshehoppe (Goshen-hoppen), August 12, 1777, extract of which ap-. Lkvans Mili^, Eaglkpoint Interior View {Siecfried), Susan (Kemp), Magdalena, Mar-garet and Daniel Jr. The latter was admittedto the Berks County Bar in 1768 and obtainedconsiderable prominence as an attorney. He heldnumerous positions of honor and trust duringthe Revolutionary period. He was one of thejudges of the Court of Justice established underthe Constitution of 1776. He served as treasurerof the county from 1779 to 1789, and as suchhad charge of the monies raised in the countyfor the militia; as sheriff of the county from 1777to 1779; as prothonotary from 1779 to 1789 andagain in 1791 ; and as Clerk of Quarter Sessionsfrom 1780 to 1791. The home of Daniel Levan, Sr., is located onSchultzs map and has been identified as whatis now Kemps Inn.
