Model of a petard, Model of a petarde, also referred to in the Netherlands by the term springbus. The petarde was used to blow up wooden doors of city gates and fortress walls. The petarde was secretly applied to the city gate after which the gunpowder in the bronze or iron mortar was ignited. The petarde is a French invention that was also used in the State army at the end of the sixteenth century.
