The outer coat of the stomach is smooth and highlypoKshed, and is called serous membrane. Betweenthis and the mucous membrane is interposed anothercomposed of three layers of elastic muscle which iscalled the muscular membrane. No sooner is the food packed away in this snug littlebox than the middle membrane begins to expand andcontract.
