In advanced cases, instead of milk, the udder se- cretes a yellowish, cloudy and sometimes flocculent liquid. In acute, rapidly developing cases, there may be pain and edema of the skin. In nearly all cases of udder tuberculosis the supra- mammary lymphatic glands situated above the udder in the middle of the escutch- eon, are enlarged and hard. If there is doubt as to the character of the disease of the udder, the milk, or possibly a piece of excised udder tissue, may be ex- amined bacteriologically. In tuberculosis of the brain, the animal is un- steady and uncertain in its movements. It lies down much of the time, is usuallj subject to occasional cramps and is apt to carry the head in an unusual position. Such cases are inclined to advance rapidly and termi- nate in death following coma or convulsions. Fig. 33.
