But, Mr. President, unlessI have misunderstood the man, the distinction which heholds dearest and which most faithfully characterizeshim is the recognition by his associates and wide circlesof acquaintances, of his kindliness, gentleness, simplicity,and sincerity, and his deep interest in his fellowmen. He is eminently fitted for the leading posi-tion which he occupies in the field of medical and aca-demic education for, after the practice of medicine in thisstate, he became professor of physiology, then dean of theschool of medicine and recently the president of WakeForest College.
