Silver invalid feeder or 'pap boat' dating from around 1810, England. These were commonly used in the nineteenth century to assist with feeding the infirm. The vessel would be filled with 'pap' (a softened mixture of breadcrumbs, flour, rice or barley mixed with liquids such as broth, milk or water) which would be delivered to the patients mouth via the extended 'lip'.
