And he gotthe habit, and as he entered the lobby he always hummedsoftly: I hippodrome I dwelt in marble halls. At last hebegan to wonder what might be the derivation of the wordhippodrome, and as he was long on scholarly lore, he knewthat hippo was Greek for horse.
