CULTURE —Used for garnishing and seasoning soups, meats, etc. Succeeds best in a mellow, rich soil, Sow thickly early in April in rows 18 to 24 inches apart and J-inch deep; thin out the plants to stand 6 inches apart in the rows. The seed germinates slowly, plants taking from three to four weeks to make their appearance, and sometimes failing to come up in dry weather. To insure prompt germination, soak the seed a few hours in warm water, or sprout in damp earth, and sow when it swells or bursts. For winter use protect in a frame or light cellar.
