Fog over Cape St. Elias. Taken from the deck of the USCGC NORTHWIND, this photograph shows Cape St. Elias Light Station nestled at the base of a 1,700 foot cliff (left), with Pinnacle Rock at the right. Low-hanging fog obscures the top of the cliff and the peak of the rock, a condition more common than unusual. The station is located on the south end of Kayak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. It was visited by the NORTHWIND during the 1950 Bering Sea Patrol when the ship transported a year's supply of fuel oil to the unit.
