Red travertines on top of the village of Karahayit, Denizli province, Turkey

Red travertines on top of the village of Karahayit, Denizli province, Turkey, as opposed to white travertines at Pamukkale, some 5km away. This is a curious village - Pamukkale has the main attraction of the site of Hieraoplis, but due to its pristine white travertines, its hotels were pulled down in the 1990s and re-built in Karahayit which is of geological importance, with its red (iron oxide and calcium) travertines right in the middle of the village
