A prophecy was directed againsthis descendants (Isa. xxi. 11). Tema, the ninthson (Gen. xxv. 15), is spoken of in Isaiah , in connection with the caravans of Dedan. The other sons of Ishmael spread over thatpart of Arabia which lies south of Palestine,. ARABIA IN ITS RELATION TO THE BIBLE 289 going as far as Shur, near Egypt, with whichlatter country they carried on commerce asearly as the days of Jacob (Gen. xxxvii. 25,xxxix. i). The names of the twelve sons of Ishmael areperpetuated in tribes, families, villages, anddistricts still existing in Arabia. 7. The Kenites, a tribe of Arabs dwellingnear or among the Amalekites in the south-west part of Arabia Petrea. They showedkindness to the children of Israel when theycame out of Egypt, and in return, Saul, whenhe went against the Amalekites, desired themto withdraw, that they might not share the fateof his enemies (Num. xxiv. 20, 21; i 6).
