It continued to moveoff with its head above water, and with the wind,for about half a mile, before we lost sight of head was somewhat broad, and of form some-what oval; its neck somewhat smaller; its shoul-ders, if I could so term them, considerablybroader, and thence it tapered toward the tail,which last it kept pretty low in the water, sothat a view of it could not be taken so distinctlyas I wished. It had no fins that I could per-ceive, and seemed to me to move progressivelyby undulation up and down. Its length I be-lieve to be between 70 and 80 feet.
