This is a framing of most of the constellation of Perseus, with the core region, the group of stars called the Perseus OB Association surrounding Alpha Persei, or Mirphak, at left and above centre. The large group is also called Melotte 20 or the Perseus Moving Cluster. The field frames a number of other bright star clusters: - NGC 1245 just right of bright Mirphak - Messier 34 at upper right - NGC 1342 at lower right - NGC 1528 at the left edge, with smaller NGC 1545 below it - above NGC 1528 is the small (on this scale) red nebula NGC 1491, aka the Fossil Footprint Nebula. - the famous variable star Algol is at right, looking blue here, accompanied by the red star Gorgonea Tertia. The main star clusters in Perseus, the Double Cluster, are off frame at top in this framing. Dust along the Miky Way tints the sky subtle tones of yellow contrasting with the bluer dust-free area of sky. This is a stack of 18 x 2-minute exposures with the rare Samyang RF85mm lens at and on the filter-modified Canon R at ISO 800. The lens was equipped with a broadband NISI Natural Night light pollution reduction filter help improve contrast. The camera was on the little Star Adventurer Mini tracker. Taken from home on a moderately clear night Sept 22/23, 2023. All stacking and blending in Photoshop.
