Light micrograph of pollen grains of the Willow herb, Epilobium. Each grain has three wing-like structures which assist in its dispersal by the wind. Pollen grains contain the male gametes. They germinate on the female stigma of the flower, growing a tube which enters the ovary. The male nuclei pass down this tube to fertilize an ovule and form a seed. Magnification: unknown. Given magnification: x180 at 35mm size, but this is inconsistent with B786/387 given as x80.
