History of Lincoln, England - Lincoln Castle (UK) as it appeared in the 18th century. After William the Conqueror's victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, he still faced continuing resistance and ordered the construction of Lincoln castle on the site of an earlier Roman construction.
