Light microscopy of skeletal muscle fibres mostly in cross-section. The characteristic features are the peripheral nuclei (often multiple) and the high proportion of mitochondria (dark purple) in the fibres. Between the fibres capillaries with blood cells are numerous and small myelinated nerves are also noted. Magnification x550 when printed at 10 cm.
