He was then made Assistant Professorof Commerce and Industry, and three years later Junior Professor, which position he still holds. In1900 he published a volume entitled EconomicCrises. He is a member of the American Econo-mic Association, the Political Economy Club ofChicago, and the National Geographic Society. On. EDWARD JONES June 27, 1895, he was married to Annabelle White,of Columbus, Ohio. JULIUS OTTO SCHLOTTERBECK was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan, September i, 1S65,son of Hermann \Villiam and Rosina Christina(Kempf) Schlotterbeck. His ancestors on bothsides were German. He passed through the variousgrades of the Ann Arbor scliools, served a time asprescription clerk, and was graduated from theSchool of Pharmacy of the University of Michiganin 1887. A year later he became assistant in Phar-macognosy and Pharmacy at the University whilepursuing studies for the degree of Bachelor of Sciencein Chemistry, which was conferred in 1S91. From1892 to 1895 he was Instructor in Pharmacognosyand Botany. The year 1S95-1896 was spent instudy at tlie University of Berne, where he receivedthe degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the end of theyear. He then returned to the University as Assist-ant Professor of Pharmacognosy and Botany, fromwhich position he was a
