N. Short. The Doctor has recently acquired a complete hunting outfit, includ- ing a well trained and intelligent Setter dog, which was presented to him by a prominent horseman. Dr. Short, although a novice at duck shooting, is a splen- did shot, and has put some of the club experts in the shade shooting ducks this year. He is particularly proud of his hunting dog, however. The other day he was showing Phil Bekeart some of the good points of his dog, and threw a half dollar into odb of the sloughs in the marsh. Obediently the dog dived for the coin, and brought out of the water a three-pound bass and 15 cents in change. Pheasants—Varieties and Culture.
