A night photograph of Tallin Town Hall (Tallinna Raekoda), in the main square of Estonia's capital. This early 15th century Gothic building made of limestone blocks, with gargoyles in the shape of dragons heads and a 16th century Renaissance spire reaching 63m high (on top of which stands the weathervane with the symbolic guardian of the city - Vana Toomas or Old Thomas), is the main focus of Tallinn Old Town (Vana Tallinn). Although heavily bombed at the end of WWII, most of this historical part of Tallinn survived, and its unique preserved ensemble of medieval buildings and walls was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997.
