As a factor of safety, it is well to make the slottedlinks, by means of which the steel shoes are hung from thesteel rack, of gray cast iron, so that in case the passage ofthe shoe along the rail becomes obstructed for any reason,the links will give away and the rack and beam will bespared. 00 ELECTRIC RAILWAYS 22 62.
