Indeed, this ancient and once renowned seat of commerce, aftersinking into semi-oblivion, has been Rip-Van-Winkled into fameagain, and is now in the bloom of a vigorous summer life, thoughstill inclined to its winter drowse. The location of Fort Adams atNewport also adds to the attractiveness of the NEWPORT, Colony Steamboat Companys Docks. From the south, Newport is reached by the Sound Steamers of theOld Colony Steamboat Company, Fall River Line; and from Boston bythe -Old Colony Road. Steamers also leave Providence for that city,stopping at all the leading places of interest along the shores of Narra-ganset Bay. Perhaps in no particular has greater improvement been made in thelast few years, than in the taste displayed in the construction of steam-boats and railway cars, thus greatly lessening the fatigue and annoy-ance of travel.
