SCOTS EXPRESS: RAILWAYS AT WAR, UK, 1944 - Two American soldiers stand outside the US RTO (Railway Transport Office) at Crewe railway station. The soldier on the right is actually an employee of the RTO, which provides information and tickets for military personnel. To the left of the photograph, servicemen and women buy refreshments from the 'railbar'. At the top of the photograph, platform numbers can be seen and just above those the arrival indicator boards are just visible. The office which is being used as the RTO was previously a branch of 'The Commercial Bank of Scotland Limited'
