The Dee between Ballater and Aboyne showing a new course taken by the river after Storm Frank

Storm Frank on 29th -30th December, 2015 resulted in exceptionally heavy rain causing the river Dee to burst its banks, flooding the town of Ballater and uninhabited areas nearby. The force of the water was such that, as shown in this photograph, the river water created a new water course between the trees leaving a small island of trees surrounded by water.
