San Pedro is a small Oasis in the desert on a high plain, where it has not rained for 400 years. It is a jumping off point in Northern Chile for tourists exploring the desert and climbing, hiking the surrounding mountains and salt flats. Nearby are very large copper mines which Chile depends on economicaly.
