Sixth Refuge(6540; rebuiltin 1904) commands a splendid final view of the BerneseAlps. About 5 ruin, farther on we reach the Simplon Pass (6590;*Hot. Bellevue, R. 272-6, B. 172, dej. 372, D. 5, pens. 7-12 fr.), 1/2 which is the (1472 M.) Simplon Hospice (6565; accommo-dation, see p. 343), founded by Napoleon for the reception of tra-vellers, but not completed until 1825, when it became the propertyof the Hospice of the Great St. Bernard.
