In Kentucky and Indi-ana the subject of this sketch was reared tomanhood and educated. He was even in hisyouth of a pious disposition, and upon reach-ing years of maturity determined to jointhe army of the ministry and spend his lifein the service of the Master. He believedthat it was not good for man to live alone,and accordingly was united in marriagewith Miss Sarah E. Scott, of Morgan coun-tv, and soon afterward came to Kosciuskocounty and settled in Franklin township,near Sevastopol, in 1856. He bought onehundred and nine acres on section 5 the fol-lowing year. Upon this farm he continuedto reside until the day of his death. Hisfirst wife dying January JO, 1873, withoutissue, he married. March 10, 1
