The only remedy for rust is to sprinkle the vines with a week solution of Bordeaux mixture at intervals of ten days, but avoid sprinkling the vines when they begin to put on fruit, as the Bordeaux mixture is very poisonous. Bust sometimes makes its appearance on the pods in transit to market. This may ord inarily be avoided by drying and cooling the fruit for several hours after gathering, and avoid packing in too close crates. Tbe best soil for the bean is a mellow, rich loam, well drained. The Best Fertilizer.—The cheapest and best fertilizer for Dwarf Beans is a big crop of cow pea vines turned under in the fall, or a crop of some good winter forage growth turned under in February or March. This should be assisted by some form of potash, which has a tendency of preventing too rank growth, and causing a more liberal fruitage.
