Heafterwards went to Australia and started a newspaper calledThe Champion. He is there still, in the backwaters of life. Early in the same year I was elected a delegate on the LegalEight Hours Committee, and attended the first meeting in aworkmens club in Gye Street, Vauxhall, in February, club was started by the Rev. W. A. Morris, Vicar of , South Lambeth— Brother Bob we used to call this club, billiards, entertainments and Socialism flourishedexceedingly. One tiny corner of the billiard-room was partitioned. Dr. Aveling was in the Chair and proved an excellent Chair-man. The Doctor was an avowed atheist, Vice-President ofthe National Secular Society, Sociahst lecturer, journahst,author and dramatist. His chief works were : StudentsMarx, Students Darwin, Botany for Students, andtranslations of Marxs Kapital, Engels Socialism,Haeckels Pedigree of Man and Titchomiroffs Hved with Eleanor Marx, the youngest daughter of KarlMarx.
