Sarcosuchus and crocodiles. Illustration of an adult crocodyliform reptile of the genus Sarcosuchus (centre) from 110 million years ago (Cretaceous), compared to a modern saltwater crocodile (left, Crocodylus porosus) and a modern gharial (right, Gavialis gangeticus). The Sarcosuchus is about 12 metres long and weighs 10,000 kilograms. The saltwater crocodile is six metres long and weighs 1000 kilograms. The gharial is six metres long and weighs about 150 kilograms.
