Seed may be sownunder glass in the spring, or in the open ground, and the second summerthe plants will flower. Some of the plants will have single flowers, andthese can be pulled up. Young plants are perfectly hardy ; but whenold they are injured in the winter. A succession of young plants shouldbe procured, either from seeds or from layers, every year. Layeringshould be done in mid-summer; simply cut a slit in a young shoot toobstruct the flow of sap and then remove the earth a few inches in depthand press down the jranch so that the slit will open, and cover it withsoil. Roots will push out where the cut was made, and thus a newplant will be formed. Perennial.
