The drawers were laid aside and the leggings madelonger, so as to cover the upper part of the thigh. TheIndian breech-clout was adopted. This was a piece oflinen or cloth nearly a yard long and eight or nine inchesbroad. This passed under the belt before and behind, leaving the ends for flaps hanging before and behind overthe belt. These flaps were sometimes ornamented withsome coarse kind of embroidery work. To the same beltswhich secured the breech-clouts, strings which supportedthe long leggings were attached. When this belt, as wasoften the case, passed over the hunting-shirt, the upperpart of the thighs and part of the hips were naked. niMjwMkiiuwBiiMMWioyiUMmwiiwuaiw. CHAPTER VIII.
