As the colonies become older thegranular structure increases, until a stage is reached when the surfacelooks as if it were covered with little fragments of broken glass. Lique-faction continues about the colonies, their structure appears fissuredand coarsely granular in texture, and occasionally a hair-like borderis formed at the periphery (Fig. 145).
