The biological stationsat Nanaimo and Friday Harbor are convenient cen-ters for the collection of marine life in the shelteredwaters of the Northwest, which are famous forthe quantity of life they produce. The planktonis especially rich in larval stages and often inNoctiluca, and locally abounds in brackish waterforms such as rotifers and Evadne.
