On May 8th, the patient was admitted to Douglas Hospitalat Washington, and it was decided to attempt to save the limb. The limbwas first suspended by Smiths anterior splint. Afterwards Hodgensapparatus was applied, and apparently answered abetter purpose; butlarge abscesses having formed in the thigh, and free incisions becomingrequisite, a long fracture box, filled with bran, was substituted.
