In 1888 Mrs. Plarford was appointed a delegate to the Worlds Mis-sionary Conference in London. In lilOT) she was made the nationalpresident of the W. M. A. She was again honored in 1915 by beingcalled to Los Angeles to serve as chairman of the National Conventionof the Young Womens Christian Association.

Here her executiveability caused here to be elected as president of the organization at theclose of the convention. Mrs. Harford has always been a loyal member of Philalethea, andthat same ability with which she at one time swayed the members of hersociety now sways many thousands of women of the two great organiza-tions of which she is president. Otterbein is indeed proud to list heramong its graduates. 50. Mrs. Mary G. Funk OF all the Alumnae of Otterbein perhaps no one istruer to her Alma Mater than Mrs. Mary G. is always ready to lend a helping hand tothe college when her services are needed. While in college Mrs. Funk won literary distinction,having taken first honors at several oratorical contestsand also in a state contest. Her life since graduation from Otterbein in 1881 hasbeen one of inspiring service and full of ]900 she was made an ordained minister of Al-legheny Conference. Besides being a delightful home-maker, she has very ably assisted her husband in hisministerial work and had a wonderful influence in thechurch and in the community. Mrs. Funk is a well-known contributor to theWatchword and Evangeh Quite frequently she givesvery helpful talks to the Y. W. C. A. girls of the will long be remembered as one of the most in-fluential women that Otterbein has ever given to thechurch and to the world. 60
