At last the pass arrived; andthe weary men, hungry, drenched, and sorely per-plexed by our unexpected failure, marched into theirtents, took supper, and were soon stretched upon theground in profound slumber. The national loss at Bull Run was fifteen hundredand ninety ; killed alone, four hundred and seventy-nine.
