Pods of Castor oil seeds, harvested from the plants, are allowed to dry in open area; the pods dry up and seeds removed easily.

After the Castor oil seeds are removed from the dried pods, seeds are pressed between rollers to squeeze out the oil. Seeds contain around 50% oil rich in triglycerides with ricinolein and very small amount of ricin which is a poison. Castor oil is used in medicine, pharmaceutical products, and in various industries including textile dies.
