From our friend the Pangerang and other sources we obtained some general information on the island. Colonised originally from Sulu, though at what date appears uncertain, there is still a certain amoimt of communication with that group of islands as well as with Sandakan at the north-east end of Borneo. The lan^uase is purely Sulu, but many of the people speak JNIalay, the lingua franca of the Indian Archipelago.
